So again here I sit in a cloud of bewilderment…weeks of rushing, planning, buying, decorating not to mention all the to & fro-ing!!! And its over in the blink of an eye and all that’s left is the clean up and hopefully time for a well deserved nap. We had a fairly quiet holiday this year, nothing too crazy a few gifts, minimal baking, a tree and some face time with a few friends & family. What we did have a lot of was down time, you have no idea how valuable it is or how much you really need it until you are in the thick of it. Just days of reading, napping, walks with the dog, catching up on these little life projects that get put at the bottom of the list because there is always something that is more pressing. Its something I am truly grateful for because it is to me truly relaxing not to mention a way to spend quality time with Dave.
Today I did one of my favourite all time Christmas things, I gathered up my Chapters gift cards (a fail safe gift if ever you want to get me something) and I headed on over to their annual boxing day sale armed with a list of my literary desires (written in my new pink Molskine notebook…thank you husband!). I got there 15 minutes early so I joined the other anxiously waiting shoppers in the attached Starbucks for a latte and to get out of the cold. Then the doors opened and with my heart a flutter I headed for the fiction section of the store. After recklessly grabbing about a dozen books I snapped back into reality long enough to assess the monetary damage…some of these would not be coming home with me. Here is the difficult part, choosing which ones to put back on the shelves….*sigh*…oh to have a bottomless book budget. So after about 30 minutes of careful internal dialogue I narrowed it down to 7; decided that was the best I could do and headed home with my purchases. So here we go head on into my second dilemma of the day; which one to start first! Yes these are actual things that go on in my brain as scary as that may seem. The first one was chosen and I am about 50 pages in and very happy with the choice! There you have it, probably the strangest Christmas tradition (or boxing day tradition) you’ve heard of but its one of my all time favourites!
