Who doesn’t love Spring? After a long cold winter there is nothing better than that first day of sunshine and warmth. Buds on the trees and the first bursts of colour from crocuses and forsythia. Everything smells fresh and new, people seem to be in a better mood all around. I love when I start to see a change at the growers, seemingly overnight I enter the cooler and I am met with the smell of hyacinth, rows of tulips and of course buckets of pussy willow branches. What a beautiful time of year for a wedding! A new beginning in life and in nature.
Decorating for a spring wedding can be so easy. Simple bouquets of colourful tulips for instance tied with satin ribbon or small potted primulas as accents on a bar or cake table. Early lilacs as a bridal bouquet and lily of the valley boutonnieres are stunning choices for a spring wedding party. Lush mixed arrangements of daffodils, hyacinth & ranunculus with soft pussy willow branches for height in galvanized tin containers evoke a feeling of the sweet season of spring.
Of course some see it as a risky choice weather wise but there is always a chance of rain no matter when your big day is…besides everyone knows that April showers bring May flowers and what could be more beautiful?

My favourite spring-time memory is making a bouquet of forsythia branches taken from the bushes in the local park on my way home from sunday school to give my mother on mother’s day. Totally illegal, but who could resist those cheerful yellow blooms?
