When planning your wedding centerpieces why not try and shy away from the everyday? While still beautiful the cube vase is seen a lot and there is so much more out there. Start by asking your florist if its an option to provide your own containers and then let the fun begin! Why not visit your local consignment shop for a series of teapots or varying crystal compotes?

As long as the floral arrangements & theme are consistent there is no reason why your containers have to be all the same. A great idea for a bridal shower could be cups and saucers with small compact arrangements of peonies or roses, what a lovely give away for your guests.

Almost any theme lends itself to a unique container. Having a garden wedding?
What about watering cans or galvanized buckets? A sleek downtown affair? A series of smaller modern vases each with a unique exotic singular bloom can have just as much impact as a full centerpiece.

This year I had a bride who found these black metal bicycles at her local Homesense, she ended up buying 14 in total but there were 4 styles in all. Filled with moss and deep pink roses they were the hit of the night!
Who doesn’t love to shop? Let your imagine wander and your florals take center stage! So think outside the cube and use a container that will take your wedding decor to the next level…

Twice a year I put on my runners and spend about 6-7 hours wandering the International and Congress centres in search of new event decor. Usually I have a list of specialty items I need for upcoming weddings or corporate parties and I have been lucky to find most of what I have been looking for. This year I was searching for all things sparkly, silver and statuesque. Boy did I find them!
Well 2 things were clear after my first trip around the show, if you were there in search of bling or bamboo you were in luck. Everywhere I turned there were rhinestone wrapped vases, hanging crystal curtain chandeliers, sparkling candelabras and silver accents. The interesting part was the equally prominent eco-friendly booths so for every bling-ed out booth there was one that was calm, simple and full of bamboo products!
All in all it was a successful trip for me, not quite as amazing as last year but I got to visit old favourites and added a few new catalogues to my supply library. It is an enjoyable escape from the studio I have to say to wander and check out what will be filling the stores in Toronto over the next year.
See you again in August CGTA!!!

When it comes to florals for weddings these days boundaries are being pushed. Gone are the days of formulaic and safe pastel arrangements; basically the rules are there are no rules. So why not do something really unexpected and add an non-floral accent to your wedding design? Feathers, branches, rhinestones, wire are a few great examples but what about fruit?

It’s a beautiful and natural addition to any floral arrangement…think apples, pears, lemons and limes..OH MY! The bottom line is have fun with the florals for your wedding. They are one of my most important elements of your day because they can create the biggest impact. So let your imagination soar and don’t forget to stop at the produce section for some inspiration!

This past weekend Events in Bloom participated in its first wedding show which took place at The Carlu. After previewing a handful of other bridal shows in the GTA I was feeling discouraged and that perhaps I would have to refocus my marketing elsewhere. Not long after this I came across The Wedding Co. web-site and loved what I saw. I quickly signed up for a pedestal booth and got to work on planning.
A pedestal is the smallest display that is offered and so I had to make good use of the space to maximize the effect of what I have to offer. My first decision was to veto pink. I took a chance and ordered 100 yellow and chartreuse green roses. I had a vision and nothing more so I was a tad stressed that it would all come together. When I stood back for the first time I was so happy and proud to see what I had envisioned come to life. After all the necessary prep work that goes along with getting ready for the show I was ready to see what the weekend would bring.
The show was elegant and extremely unique. The floor plan was more free form and my fellow exhibitors showcased beautiful products and services. It was like Martha Stewart weddings had come to life in all the rooms of The Carlu. I met some amazing contacts and potential clients some of whom I have already begun to plan their wedding floral needs with!
As my introduction into the world of wedding shows I have to say I couldn’t have asked for more and I look forward to participating again in 2011. Thanks to the Wedding Co. team for putting on such a great show, to Dave Mitchell for my fantastic postcard design & your support and to Kate for your immense help the entire weekend.

So the cookies are baked, the gifts are wrapped and the tree is sparking bright…I’ll be honest I kind of wish we had some snow! I do love this time of year regardless of the stress and commercialism that abounds. When you strip it down its just a time to be with loved ones and reflect on the year that has passed…and indulge!
However you choose to spend this time I hope it is filled with light and love.
Thanks to everyone who helped make 2009 the best year yet for Events in Bloom!
We can’t wait to see what 2010 holds for us…stay tuned.
Merry Christmas to you and yours from Events in Bloom!
