Merlot country….Heather & Jason.

p1010957On a beautiful rare sunny summer day Heather and Jason tied the knot at Tralee Farms in Orangeville. Heather is a busy veterinarian and was open to direction. She loves dark rich red and wanted something unique. We settled on a rustic, rich look with modern undertones. Deep merlot dahlias paired with fluffy white hydrangeas, berries and curly willow in clear moder globe vases dressed the guest tables.

The bride carried a bouquet of burgundy calla lilies, merlot spotted white dahlias and white hydrangeas wrapped in white satin. With a backdrop of acres of green grass hills, horse paddocks and endless trees; there wasn’t much more decor needed. It was the perfect mid August country affair…of course with the Events in Bloom modern twist!p1010960

Stephanie & Gord…a peachy keen wedding.

p1010569

Stephanie was a blank slate, she came into the studio with only a picture of her dress and a fabric swatch for the maid of honour. As a couple they were really open to ideas and wanted something different. After considering a few different colour schemes they settled on champagne and peach with punches of acid green and orange. For me it was another chance to do something that was a change from some of the latest events I have been working on.

They got married at Miller Lash house and if you are familiar with this venue space it is very quaint and simple. For the ceremony the arbour was decorated with 2 coordinating arrangements, twisting grape vine and lots of rose petals. I managed to fall of a ladder while decorating this and besides scraping my leg and a twisted ankle my bruised ego was most painful! Thank you to Vicky for your help while I hobbled around the grounds finishing things.

Besides being an absolutely picture perfect summer day the wedding was warm in other ways. All the family members and friends gathering together to pitch in for the bride & groom. Rustic copper containers with soft peach roses, river rocks and curly willow on each table under a tent surrounded by beautiful gardens. It felt very much like they are as a couple, serene and natural. I loved being a part of this day…

The white wedding…Karolina & Ivan.

p1010470

Karolina made a huge first impression, she is tall, blond and very pretty. She is not about structure or fuss, she wanted to her wedding to be clean and simple. Letting the beauty of the florals and surrounding gardens speak for themselves. Her first statement to me was just get whatever is white and beautiful…I trust you. Really? Yes!!! My favourite type of bride; provides some basic ideas but no strict guidelines!

The ceremony was outdoors on a perfect Friday in June at the McLean House on the Estates of Sunnybrook. The bride wore a flowing white organza dress with a veil to rival some royals. On the tables were alternating modern vases of white hydrangeas and white calla lilies. The ceremony was lush surrounded by the trees, white petals, white florals and aisle decor creating a crisp romantic setting.

I rarely get a glimpse of the bride as I’m usually in and out but on this occasion since I was moving the ceremony pieces to decorate the reception I was there for everything. Seeing her in her dress with the bouquet I had made for her was very special and reminded me why I do what I do. Happiness flowed freely that day…it was the perfect day for a white wedding.

Classic creams…Allison & Rob

glenerin.jpg

Allison is a very busy bride, the first thing I got from her was “no fuss”. She wanted things that were classic and was open to suggestion except for when it came to her own bouquet. The vision for herself was a tight posey of black magic roses tied in white satin. The girls ended up with a small bouquet of neutral roses & anemones tied with champagne ribbon to coordinate with the groomsmen’s ties and contrast their navy dresses. The groom rocked a single black magic rose to match his new bride while the rest of the boutonnieres were white freesia.

The ceremony & reception were both held at the Glen Erin Inn located in Mississauga. The rooms there are absolutely beautiful, off white walls with dark wooden beams, and leaded glass windows and soaring ceilings. We decided on a compact arrangement in a copper metal container made up of white hydrangea, cream roses and waxflower. It’s hard to compete with architecture at times especially with a limited budget so its best to just compliment your surroundings when this happens. The result was warm, soft & romantic…perfect for this couple! Congrats to Allison & Rob on their special day!

Rosemary & Mark…a refreshing palette.

paletta.jpg

Rosemary & Mark have been the most easy going couple I’ve worked with. They were very relaxed and more than willing to leave their wedding decisions to the professionals. Meeting with them it was clear, they were getting married and everything else would just fall into place. Well that attitude worked out for them, not a cloud in the sky, a beautifully simple ceremony on the shore of Lake Ontario followed by a reception at the Paletta Mansion.

The bride only wanted one thing, a natural looking hand-tied bouquet in purples & lavenders with hints of acid green. This is one of my favourite scenarios as an event designer, guidelines but no set rules. I came back from the grower with boxes full of baby green hydrangea, purple anemone, lavender freesia, lisianthus, green hypericum, lavender sweet pea & heavenly cincher. It was a lot of fun making her bouquets and wedding decor. Nothing like a refreshing colour palette to put a spring in this floral designer’s step. Congrats to the happy couple!
