The Wedding Co. bridal show

This past weekend Events in Bloom participated in its first wedding show which took place at The Carlu. After previewing a handful of other bridal shows in the GTA I was feeling discouraged and that perhaps I would have to refocus my marketing elsewhere. Not long after this I came across The Wedding Co. web-site and loved what I saw. I quickly signed up for a pedestal booth and got to work on planning.p1020418

A pedestal is the smallest display that is offered and so I had to make good use of the space to maximize the effect of what I have to offer. My first decision was to veto pink. I took a chance and ordered 100 yellow and chartreuse green roses. I had a vision and nothing more so I was a tad stressed that it would all come together. When I stood back for the first time I was so happy and proud to see what I had envisioned come to life. After all the necessary prep work that goes along with getting ready for the show I was ready to see what the weekend would bring.

The show was elegant and extremely unique. The floor plan was more free form and my fellow exhibitors showcased beautiful products and services. It was like Martha Stewart weddings had come to life in all the rooms of The Carlu. I met some amazing contacts and potential clients some of whom I have already begun to plan their wedding floral needs with!

As my introduction into the world of wedding shows I have to say I couldn’t have asked for more and I look forward to participating again in 2011. Thanks to the Wedding Co. team for putting on such a great show, to Dave Mitchell for my fantastic postcard design & your support and to Kate for your immense help the entire weekend.

A modern twist at the Old Mill – Natacha & Dave

Natacha & Dave are such a young and vibrant couple with a lot of energy. They knew that honouring the traditional look bothimg_0658 of their families wanted was very important but didn’t want things to appear stuffy. What they really needed? A modern twist.

img_0652Shades of neutrals were the jumping off point with the addition of pops of acid green orchids, simple metal containers and black satin ribbon bringing together a look that was both timeless and urban. The backdrop of the Old Mill is very classic and choice of neutral creams and coppers blended seamlessly together.

The bride and her girls carried lush nosegays of hydrangeas, roses & orchids all hand tied in satin ribbon. I learned that it’s not always impossible to please everyone, all it takes is a little patience and creative juices! The process was a bit challenging but in the end they were such fun to work with and that makes all the difference. I wish them all the best…img_0647

Ina & Alan…rich reds in the Distillery District.

img_1854There was nothing typical about this couple and that was definitely reflected in their wedding day. Set amongst the beautiful and historical backdrop of the Distillery District, Ina & Alan had a quiet and simple ceremony in a gallery full of vibrant artwork. The reception to follow took place in Archeo with stainless steel communal tables, polished concrete floors and exposed beams.

For her bouquet the bride simply requested jewel tones, incorporating lavender and as many local florals as possible. The result was a rich and stunning bouquet of merlot red dahlias, rust calla lilies, deep purple berries, wild thyme and black magic roses. The table centrepieces were long industrial metal trays arranged with seasonal kale, dahlia and berries.img_1862

Sculptural and high impact decor paired with the beauty of their surroundings; Ina & Alan enjoyed the magic of the Distillery with their closest friends and family…

The effortless beauty that is autumn….

p1020254The bad news is it’s followed by winter, the good news?… it’s a beautiful time for flowers! Deep reds, vibrant yellows, warm oranges and bold burgundy, this is what I picture when I think of fall. Sweaters, leaves, warm apple cider and a pot of stew simmering on the stove bring to mind my favourite season but it also brings to us a local bounty of endless autumn blooms. Hit up your local floral market for a bouquet of sunflowers, kale, mums in endless colours or even just a great bunch of berries.p1020097

There are plenty of ways to bring the outdoors in at this time of year. It’s over so quickly and before you know it we will be surrounded once again by a sea of white snow and bare branches. Fall weddings are becoming increasingly popular and October is now my second busiest month for this very reason. There is a certain richness to an event full of these striking shapes and colours.

So as the days get colder and shorter take some time to enjoy a brisk walk in your local park and be sure to treat yourself to a fall floral arrangement…no special occasion required. Before you know it we will all take to our homes to escape winter once again.

Amidst the fall splendour – Sandra & John

October is a beautiful month to get married…that is if you are lucky enough to get one of those perfect fall days. Sandra & John had luck on their side as they tied the knot on a sunny and warm Saturday in early October at the Hunt Club nestled in the Scarborough Bluffs. The bride and I have an important thing in common we are both very busy entrepreneurs and because of this Sandra was a model bride. Decisions were concise and the day went off without a hitch.

Beautiful deep dark reds including adorable place card apples contrasting with lush white hydrangeas and mocha brown satin linens set the tone for this warm and charming reception. Guests were surrounded by this beautiful decor as well as having a endless view of Lake Ontario while they enjoyed the festivities.

The couple was a pleasure to work with and I wish them all the best for their journey together!
